On the eve of National Unity Day in Nizhny Novgorod, an unusual wedding ceremony took place — a couple registered their marriage against the backdrop of Konstantin Makovsky's famous painting "The Appeal of Minin." This painting, one of the central exhibits of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum, is dedicated to an event that has become a symbol of the courage and solidarity of the Russian people — the formation of the Nizhny Novgorod militia of 1612, which liberated Moscow and the country from foreign invaders.
Olga Krasnova, head of the Main Civil Registry Office of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, noted that the choice of this particular location has deep meaning. In the Time of Troubles, Nizhny Novgorod became a center of resistance and the unification of Russian lands, and the feat of Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin has gone down in history as an example of genuine popular unity and steadfastness of spirit. She emphasized that family relationships are built on the same principles — shared goals, mutual respect and harmony. Only unity of views and aspirations can make a family truly strong and happy. Krasnova expressed confidence that registering a marriage against the backdrop of a historical symbol will give the couple's union special strength, because by uniting hearts, society strengthens the unity of families and generations.
The newlyweds Pavel and Anastasia Ryabininy said the ceremony made a strong impression on them. They stressed that they are proud of their Motherland and the feat of the Nizhny Novgorod militia, and that they embrace the idea of unity on which a strong state rests. In their view, a family, like a country, becomes strong when it is founded on trust, mutual understanding and support.
The Main Civil Registry Office of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, together with the ANO "Institute for Demographic Development," continues to develop a project to organize off-site wedding registration ceremonies.
Evgeny Zhuravlev, director of the institute, noted that the off-site registration project carries special symbolism — the joining of historical heritage with the birth of new families. He said the idea of unity underlying such ceremonies makes each of them especially meaningful. He added that expanding the list of unusual venues for wedding registrations helps create an atmosphere of respect for history and love for the native land in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Earlier it was reported that on November 4 a religious procession (0+) in honor of the Kazan Icon will be held in the Volga capital.
