Therefore, the emphasis in this part of the exercises is on night shooting at flying targets. We practiced firing from a trench—the so-called closed position—and from open ground. We use thermal imagers and night vision devices to detect and engage the simulated target. The fighters learned quickly; the results are visible,” said the fire and tactical training instructor with the callsign “Google.” During the exercises the reservists completed tactical and firing training and learned modern tactical medicine. Practical night shooting sessions were conducted using assault rifles and machine guns. Instructors paid special attention to team cohesion and to practicing reaction speed when threats arise. “We carried out complex exercises: moving a mobile group to a position, dismounting, deploying and repelling an attack by the opponent’s unmanned aerial vehicles using standard small arms. The gong targets are positioned at distances of 100, 200, 300 and 400 meters. Laser aiming devices were used for fire correction. The volunteers’ level of training has risen, and, most importantly, they have potential—they want to develop and work in this direction,” said the counter-UAV instructor with the callsign “Ozilot.” BARS-NN reservists noted that the training was intense and as close to combat as possible. The experience gained both in individual drills and in group exercises will help during combat duty. “Daytime and nighttime training are two completely different stages that require absolutely different skills. As a whole, the exercises during the military gatherings significantly improved shooting quality,” said Denis, a rifleman of the BARS-NN mobile fire group. Eduard, commander of the BARS-NN mobile fire group, emphasized after the training that the reservists are ready to counter threats if they arise. “The group is fully prepared to engage UAVs both at night and during the day. One of the key skills was learning to listen and determine the direction from which a drone is coming. This will allow us to conduct accurate and effective fire. I assess my group’s training as confidently good,” he concluded. On November 1 the first group of reservists of the BARS-NN mobilization reserve will begin combat duty to guard and defend important energy and infrastructure facilities in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. It should be recalled that service in the BARS-NN reserve does not involve deployment to the zone of the special military operation and takes place only within the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Recruitment to the reserve is conducted on a voluntary basis through municipal military commissariats by signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Russia, represented by the commander of the military unit. Its special feature is the ability to combine regular civilian work with military training and gatherings. For the entire duration of the contract, reservists are provided with financial compensation, modern equipment and uniforms. During military gatherings, their jobs and salaries are retained; they are provided with life and health insurance, medical assistance and free meals.
