The Nizhny Novgorod City Hall has approved an architectural and artistic concept for the design of the section of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya from Gorky Square to Lyadov Square. The corresponding decree was published on the official website of the city administration.
The main emphasis is on standardizing the design of signs. Now only 14 shades of gray and beige are permitted for information structures. The color scheme must correspond to the overall color solution of the building façade. At the same time, the use of brand colors of trademarks is allowed if they are registered with Rospatent.
The lighting of signs is also regulated: only neutral or cool white light is permitted. Shop window neon is allowed exclusively in a warm white shade.
The updated design code also introduces strict rules for typography. Fonts must be easily readable and harmonize with the building’s architecture. It is forbidden to use decorative, display, handwritten, and calligraphic fonts, as well as to distort characters — to stretch them or change the spacing between letters. Duplication of identical information on a single façade is also not permitted.
Special attention has been paid to the design of false façades on buildings undergoing reconstruction. Three visual options are proposed:
- a photograph of the city with a "reboot" symbol and various phrases;
- an image of the façade under repair in a graphic or photorealistic style;
- a decorative "Capital of Sunsets" design in the form of theater curtains opening to reveal a panorama of the city.
Earlier it was reported that a design code had been approved for the Fedorovsky Embankment, Zvezdinka Street and the "Gordeevsky pyatachok."
