A terrorism case was opened against two Nizhny Novgorod residents for setting fire to a cell tower.

      28 October 2025 17:48 Incidents Two men are suspected of setting fire to a mobile communications base station in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. The incident occurred on 27 October in the Pavlovsky district. During the inspection of the scene, the investigative-operational team found that the door of the communications cabinet had been forced open and the equipment inside had been damaged by fire — the cable insulation had melted. Evidence that aided the investigation was also found. A criminal case has been opened on the charge of "Terrorist act" (paragraph "a" of part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Officers from the Center for Countering Extremism and the Criminal Investigation Department, together with district police, identified which store the tools and accelerant used in the arson were purchased from. This led to the suspects — two local residents. Their whereabouts have been established. According to preliminary information, the men committed the crime under the influence of unknown persons acting remotely. They were promised monetary compensation. The investigation continues. Investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the reasons that may have influenced it. The regional police urge citizens not to accept dubious "side jobs." Criminal liability is provided for actions that create a threat to life, property and public safety. Under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the penalty can be up to 20 years' imprisonment.
