The Administration of Nizhny Novgorod must compensate for the environmental damage caused by the illegal placement of construction waste on the territory of the Leninsky District. This decision was made by the First Arbitration Appellate Court, which supported the position of the Interregional Office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia.

According to the press service of the supervisory authority, the amount of damage caused to the soils amounted to more than 1.8 million rubles.

The violation of environmental legislation was recorded back in 2021 in the area of the gardeners' non-commercial partnership "Oksky". An illegal dump of construction waste was discovered there, including concrete rubble, brick, wood remnants, as well as the filling of the fire water reservoir — Lake Zhemchuzhnoye — with waste.

The total area of the contaminated site exceeded 400 square meters. The wastes, classified as hazard classes IV and V, were placed on lands overseen by local self-government authorities.

The court concluded that the city administration had been negligent, failing to provide proper municipal land control and not organizing measures to protect the environment. This caused the formation of the dump and the subsequent soil contamination.

The ruling to recover the damage from the municipal formation, represented by the Department of Finance, has entered into legal force.

Earlier it was reported that Rosprirodnadzor had discovered soil contamination near the MSW landfill in the Sergachsky District.
