More than a thousand workers will clear the snow in Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo.

      The cycle of inspections of the winter preparedness of Nizhny Novgorod's districts has concluded. The final point was an inspection of equipment and work crews in the Kstovo district, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev said.

      According to the mayor, in the upcoming winter season about 600 pieces of equipment and over a thousand workers will be involved in snow removal in Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo. Together with housing management companies and contractors, this resource will increase to almost a thousand vehicles and more than three thousand street cleaners.

      "It's still difficult to predict what the winter will be like. This time last year we were already fighting the first snow, whereas now it's raining," the mayor noted.

      Shalabaev added that the city prepared in advance: equipment has been re-equipped, crews are fully staffed, de-icing agents have been purchased, and cleaning routes have been worked out.

      An expanded meeting of the headquarters involving all those responsible for winter street cleaning will be held in the near future.

      As part of the inspection in Kstovo, various types of equipment were presented: combination road machines, snowplows, front-end loaders, bulldozers, dump trucks and other special equipment. The inspection was carried out by representatives of the city administration, district authorities and deputies of the city duma.

      Deputy head of the Kstovo district administration Alexander Spirin said that more than 100 units of equipment have been prepared in the district for winter. "All equipment has been converted for winter conditions, de-icing materials have been stockpiled. Together with contractors we have updated and checked the routes for special vehicles," he said.

      Andrey Zhitnikov, director of the Department of Transport and Road Management of the Nizhny Novgorod administration, emphasized that the Kstovo district is fully ready for winter operations.

      "We checked the equipment and the availability of personnel. De-icing materials have been delivered, routes have been developed. We will monitor how the services cope with the first snowfalls and, if necessary, promptly adjust actions," the official noted.

      It was previously reported that Nizhny Novgorod's road services switched to winter mode on October 24.
