Incidents
A 70-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident became the victim of phone scammers and lost more than 6 million rubles over two weeks, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.
According to the victim, unknown callers who identified themselves as employees of various government agencies phoned her over a two-week period. Under the pretext of canceling a suspicious bank transaction and the need to "declare" her savings, the fraudsters convinced the woman to withdraw all her funds from her accounts.
After that, the pensioner handed large sums of money to strangers five times. Three times — on playgrounds in the Kanavinsky District, where she handed over 1,150,000, 1,000,000 and 1,864,000 rubles. She gave another 1,190,000 rubles near the entrance to her building on Akimov Street, and 1,000,000 rubles in the Leninsky District of the city.
The total loss amounted to 6,204,000 rubles.
A criminal case has been opened on a charge of "fraud on an especially large scale." An investigation is underway.
Earlier it was reported that a 75-year-old resident of Arzamas gave scammers nearly 3 million rubles of her personal savings.
