Since the early 2000s four new populated places have appeared on the map of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, reports "Zhivem v Nizhnem" citing the region's state-legal department.
The first of them was founded in November 2001, when a village covering 9 hectares appeared on the territory of the Zamyatinsky rural settlement of Balakhna District.
Two years later a new village arose in Sosnovsky District — it was created on the territory of the Paninsky rural settlement. Its area amounted to 21 hectares.
In 2004 five streets were separated from the settlement of Babino and transformed into an independent rural settlement.
The most recent new populated place to date was formed in 2006. It appeared as part of the Shatovsky rural settlement of Arzamas District.
There are now 4,840 populated places in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
Earlier it emerged that there would be one fewer Sosnovka in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. It was also reported that two Nizhny villages might be assigned numbers because they share identical names.
