The former head of the autonomous non-profit organization "Gorky" has been placed under house arrest.

      Former head of the autonomous non-profit organization "Center for Tourism and Organization 'Gorky'" Gleb Konovalov has been released from a pre-trial detention center and placed under house arrest. This decision was made by the Nizhegorodsky District Court, Kommersant-Privolzhye reports.

      Konavalov spent about a year in custody on charges of fraud on a particularly large scale. According to investigators, together with the owner of the private security firm "Boyets," Evgeny Ponomarev, he embezzled nearly 14 million rubles from a municipal subsidy.

      The defendants are, in particular, accused of misappropriating budget funds in connection with organizing security for Nizhny Novgorod’s gorodovye and of contracting the sewing of uniforms at inflated prices.

      Both defendants have denied the charges. The defense insists that all contracts were concluded at market prices and that there is no evidence of illegal withdrawal of funds in the case.

      According to Konovalov, security for the gorodovye was indeed provided, which is also confirmed by the head of the private security firm. The substantive trial is expected to begin in November.

      Recall that Gleb Konovalov was arrested in October 2024 in a case concerning fraud involving budget funds for the Nizhny Novgorod gorodovye. In February 2025 the "New Gorodovoy" project was transferred to the management of the municipal Department of Tourism of Nizhny Novgorod.

      The gorodovye first appeared on the streets of Nizhny Novgorod in May 2022.
