A resident of Sarov became a victim of telephone fraud and lost a large sum of money — more than 1.6 million rubles. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

According to the police, an unknown person called the woman and introduced himself as an employee of one of the government agencies. He said that she urgently needed to declare her savings, otherwise sanctions would follow. The pensioner refused, but the calls continued.

For four days the perpetrator exerted psychological pressure, threatening to seize the funds if the woman did not comply. In the end, frightened, she agreed to follow the fake official's instructions.

The pensioner gathered 1,605,000 rubles and went to the Moscow Region, where she handed the money to a courier as instructed by the caller. Only later, after speaking with relatives, did she realize she had been deceived.

A criminal case has been opened on the charge of fraud. The police once again reminded that legitimate representatives of government bodies, banks and funds do not require money to be handed over via couriers and do not ask to declare personal savings. All such approaches are tricks used by scammers.

Earlier it was reported that a resident of Sarov lost almost 22 million rubles by transferring money to a so‑called "safe" account.
