Applications are still being accepted for the "Best House. Best Yard" competition of best practices in apartment building management.
October 24, 2025, 09:47 — Society. The Third All-Russian contest "Best House. Best Yard" started in the Nizhny Novgorod Region in early October. Residents and representatives of management companies can submit applications to participate until November 15, 2025.
Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev, secretary of the local branch of the United Russia party in the Prioksky district, presented one of the contest participants. Residents of the apartment building at 1 Bonch-Bruyevich Street will compete for the title of "best yard."
"I can say with confidence that the contest is a very promising project. It helps not only to solve the problems of many yards, but also to improve communication among residents. After all, we all notice that many people nowadays do not know their neighbors. Here, visiting the contest participants, you immediately feel an atmosphere of unity and good neighborliness," noted Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev.
The yard has long been a local landmark. For decades, the close-knit group of neighbors has been actively engaged in landscaping the area and tending the front gardens.
"We want it to be beautiful. Nobody plants anything for us here. We buy plants with our own money, plant them, prune, water, weed. Quite recently we made an excellent parking lot so that our car owners could park in a designated spot rather than on the lawn. Right now a major renovation of the entranceways is underway," said Vera Aleturina, the head of the building at 1 Bonch-Bruyevich Street.
A working group led by Alexander Ryzhov, regional coordinator of the federal party project "School of Housing and Utilities," inspected the yards of applicants from the Leninsky district of Nizhny Novgorod. The building at 26 Iul'skikh Dney Street was included in the "Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment" program in 2025. As part of the project, repair work on roadways and sidewalks was carried out at a cost of more than 8 million rubles.
"An important condition of the contest has been met here. The authorities, the management company, the apartment building council, and the homeowners united to improve their yard and make their building better. Using residents' funds, work was carried out to prepare and paint the building plinths and to repair the entrance groups, and a wonderful parking area was organized," emphasized Alexander Ryzhov.
According to residents, caring for the yard has brought them very close. They worked in whole families, and the children joined in with great enthusiasm.
"We decided to take part in the contest because we have done colossal work on landscaping. Our yard is now unrecognizable. It's a pity it's already late autumn. In summer our whole area literally blooms — residents plant many different flowers. Very beautiful. We hope to win," said Alesya Kurneva, the head of the building at 26 Iul'skikh Dney Street.
The best yard will be chosen by public voting, which will take place from October 15 to December 15, 2025. Winners will be determined in five categories: "Best Yard," "Best Entrance," "Most Friendly Building," "Most Energy-Efficient Building," and "Young Hands of the District."
The main objectives of the contest are to identify and promote best practices and to encourage active homeowners and efficiently operating management companies.
