A Zavolzhye resident was detained after illegal fishing.

      In the Perevozsky district a police officer detained a man for fishing using an illegal net. A criminal case has been opened, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reports.

      The incident occurred in September on the Pyana River in the area of the village of Ichalki. A resident of Zavolzhye was illegally catching fish using a 70-meter fishing net. This fishing gear is prohibited because it causes significant damage to aquatic biological resources and leads to mass death of fish, including protected species.

      The offender had the fishing net seized, as well as the rubber boat he was fishing from. A criminal case has been opened.

      Meanwhile, two residents of the Volgograd Region face prison time for collecting wild hemp, reports Volgogradskaya Pravda.

      Earlier, pravda-nn.ru reported that 425 kg of illegal fish products were seized in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
