A strategic session on the development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region's foreign economic ties was held as part of the VI International Foreign Economic Forum "Challenges and Solutions for Business: a Territory of Successful Practices" (18+).
The event brought together about 50 representatives of government, business and experts to develop concrete measures for integrating the region into the global economy. Participants included representatives of the regional government, practitioner-experts, company heads, and — for the first time — resettlers and economics students from Nizhny Novgorod universities. Session participants worked through new avenues for integrating the region into the global economy in detail.
It was proposed to focus the main efforts to develop foreign economic ties on three key areas: developing "smart export" with an emphasis on high-tech products and intellectual services; internationalizing fast-growing sectors by attracting foreign investment and technologies; and strengthening cross-cultural cooperation and the region's international image.
"The benefit of such a strategic session is in creating a shared picture of the future and producing consolidated decisions. When representatives of the authorities, business and society jointly determine foreign economic activity priorities at one table, it significantly increases the feasibility and quality of the strategies adopted," noted participant and expert in supporting foreign economic transactions at SKS-Consulting LLC, Yulia Kotsevich.
Five thematic roundtables operated within the session, where specific projects were discussed for developing exports of medical and educational services, addressing the personnel shortage in the field of foreign economic activity, promoting the region's tourism potential, and creating a comfortable environment for foreign specialists. Among the most elaborated initiatives was the creation of a single operator for medical tourism and for representing the region abroad.
"We are creating the strategy for the development of the region's foreign economic activity together with the expert and business communities and will regularly hold such meetings. This approach allows us to remain flexible and responsive to changes. It is especially valuable that this year resettlers and young economists joined the dialogue: their fresh, unjaded perspective generates ideas that we will certainly put into practice," said Dmitry Starostin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
All proposals developed during the strategic session will be consolidated into the strategy for the development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region's foreign economic ties. The document will serve as the basis for practical work to integrate the region into the international economic agenda and will be regularly updated to account for new challenges and opportunities.
The strategic session was organized by the Project Office of the Strategy for the Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region with the participation of the OKA Agency.
