A rabies quarantine for animals has been imposed in the village of Belavka in the Vorotynsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The corresponding decree was signed by the region's governor.
The decision was made on the basis of a submission by the chairman of the veterinary committee and came into force on October 16, 2025.
The outbreak was identified at a private household farm of a local resident. As a result, strict restrictions have been imposed in the village aimed at containing and eliminating the outbreak.
In the epizootic focus, treatment of infected animals, movement of animals susceptible to the virus, skinning of carcasses, and hunting are prohibited, except for population control measures. Access by outsiders is also restricted, except for specialists and residents.
Fairs, exhibitions, and other events involving the movement of animals are prohibited throughout the village of Belavka. Removal is only allowed if animals have been vaccinated against rabies no later than 179 days before transport, or if the animals are being taken for slaughter.
The veterinary committee has been instructed to develop and approve an action plan to eliminate the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease.
Earlier reports stated that a rabies quarantine had been introduced in the village of Salgany in the Krasnooktyabrsky district and in the settlement of Petrovsky in the Vorotynsky district.
