Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin proposed a complete ban on the use of palm oil in products for children. He voiced the initiative during a discussion of an appeal to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. This was reported on the State Duma chairman's channel on Max.
"Palm oil should be banned in all children's products, in confectionery, in milk. And for the rest — restrict it and put it up for discussion. So that it is open, transparent and clear to everyone. No one now knows what palm oil is being imported, of what quality. What is harmful must not be imported," Volodin said.
He also reminded that previously palm oil was taxed at a preferential rate, like baby food. However, this measure was later revoked, and the freed funds were directed to support the dairy industry.
"We banned it. The saved funds went to support milk production. And now we are taking an even tougher stance on this issue," he added.
Earlier it became known that an initiative had appeared to label chips and carbonated drinks as harmful products.
