      The investigator of the investigative department for the closed administrative-territorial formation (ZATO) of Sarov of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a local resident accused of murdering two women with particular cruelty, in a manner posing a public danger, with the aim of concealing another crime (subparas “a”, “d”, “e”, “k” of part 2 of Art. 105; para. “a” of part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and of intentionally destroying and damaging another’s property by arson (part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

      According to the investigation, on April 7 of this year the accused, while visiting the women in an apartment in a building on Kuibysheva Street in the city of Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod Region, during an argument with one of them, went out into the stairwell, strangled her, and then inflicted stab wounds on her mother. In order to conceal the crime, he moved the victims’ bodies into the apartment, set it on fire and fled the scene.

      Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia, in cooperation with operational officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the ZATO Sarov, detained the person involved in this crime, a 26‑year‑old local resident, in a short time. At the investigator’s request, the court has remanded the suspect in custody.

      The investigation has collected a sufficient evidentiary base, and the criminal case has been sent to court for trial on the merits.
