The governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia, Denis Butsayev, discussed the implementation of major environmental projects in the region. The meeting took place as part of the EKG Forum of Responsible Business "SO.ZNANIE".

One of the key topics was work on creating an eco-industrial park in Dzerzhinsk. Before meeting with the governor, Denis Butsayev personally visited the construction site and assessed the progress of the work.

The new eco-park is being built on the territory of the former Zarya chemical plant and is part of the federal project "Circular Economy", which is being implemented under the national project "Environmental Well‑being". It is planned to host enterprises that process waste and return secondary raw materials to production.

According to Gleb Nikitin, the facility is almost ready. Work is currently being completed in the scientific and technical center, engineering networks are being connected, the territory is being landscaped, and internal roads are being finished.

"Today we face the task of minimizing waste landfilling by increasing the percentage that is recycled and brought into secondary use. And the eco‑industrial park will help us with this. It already unites companies that are interested in implementing a circular economy. And the start‑up of the facility at full capacity will allow us to increase waste processing capacities," the governor said.

Denis Butsayev, in turn, stressed that creating such eco‑parks is an important step toward sustainable development. He noted that in such projects waste is turned into resources, and an entire industrial ecosystem is built around recycling. According to him, Nizhny Novgorod Region is one example that other regions can look to.

Nizhny Novgorod Region is among the six pilot regions in Russia where such projects are being implemented. The eco‑park in Dzerzhinsk has already begun accepting residents. Future directions include tire recycling, paper and plastic packaging recycling, production of additives for asphalt, granulated glass and products made from wood‑polymer composites.

Earlier it was reported that an automated reception point for trucked‑in wastewater will be established in the Kanavinsky District of Nizhny Novgorod.
