On the Ryazhsk–Kasimov–Murom–Nizhny Novgorod highway on the evening of October 17, a serious road accident involving a wild animal occurred. The crash happened at kilometer 401 of the road in the Bogorodsky district, the regional State Traffic Inspectorate reported.
A 55-year-old driver behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Tiguan failed to react in time when a moose suddenly ran onto the road and struck it. The impact threw the animal into the oncoming lane, where it was then hit in turn by two other cars — a VAZ-2115 and a Nissan Almera.
The VAZ was driven by a 33-year-old man, and the Nissan by a 24-year-old driver.
As a result of the collision, the Volkswagen driver died at the scene. A five-year-old child was also injured and taken to hospital.
State Traffic Inspectorate officers are now clarifying all the details of the incident.
Earlier, residents of Nizhny Novgorod were urged to be more careful on the roads due to the start of the moose mating season, during which they become more active and more often enter the roadway.
