The Kuibyshev District Court of Omsk has denied a petition for the conditional early release of former Nizhny Novgorod mayor Oleg Sorokin. This was reported to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the Omsk Regional Court.
Sorokin is currently serving his sentence in strict-regime penal colony No. 6 in Omsk.
Recall that he was arrested in December 2017, and in 2019 was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony and fined 460.8 million rubles. The former head of Nizhny Novgorod was accused of receiving a bribe on a particularly large scale, as well as complicity in the kidnapping of a person.
At the time the petition was considered, Sorokin had spent almost eight years in custody. The court decided to deny his early release.
Earlier it was reported that more than 1 billion rubles had been recovered from Sorokin in favor of the state. The prosecutor's office has also filed a claim to recover an additional 2 billion rubles from him.
