On October 16, in the urban-type settlement of Sharanga, as part of the Parliament Day of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a session of the tourism section was held. Participants of the roundtable discussed prospects for the development of tourist activities in the northern districts of the region using the Sharanga municipal district as an example.
The section's work began with visits to key tourist infrastructure sites. Deputies visited the Mari Izba House-Museum in the village of Chernomuzh, where they learned about the unique traditions and culture of the Mari people. They also inspected the modern resort complex "Mysteries of Yuronga" in the village of Bolshoye Ustinskoye — a vivid example of a successfully implemented project to create modular accommodation facilities. The roundtable was organized at the Sharanga People's Local History Museum.
At the meeting, data on the tourism potential of the northern territories were presented. Although nearly 780,000 people visited them in 2024, accounting for 16.5% of the region's total tourist flow, only 8.5% of the region's accommodation facilities are located there. This indicates significant potential for growth and the need to develop infrastructure.
A striking example of such development is the resort complex "Mysteries of Yuronga," created with state support as part of the national project "Tourism and the Hospitality Industry." This project has become an attraction for tourists and demonstrated how effectively the area's natural resources can be used. In addition, the district offers visitors unique cultural routes, such as the "Necklace of Sharanga Churches" and "Mari Izba," which introduce the history and traditions of the local peoples.
Following the discussion, recommendations were developed for the regional Ministry of Tourism and Crafts as well as for local authorities. Key proposals include actively incorporating the attractions of the northern districts into regional and interregional routes, promptly posting information about them on the region's tourism portal, and promoting event tourism, such as ethnocultural festivals. Special attention was paid to developing volunteer tourism to improve eco-routes and supporting local producers.
"The northern districts of our region are a unique territory with the richest natural and cultural heritage. Our task is not just to support individual successful projects like 'Mysteries of Yuronga,' but to create a system that will allow this positive experience to be replicated across the entire northern direction, making it attractive and accessible to thousands of tourists," summarized Evgeny Lyulin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
