Former spouses were convicted for selling counterfeit luxury clothing in Nizhny Novgorod.

      In Nizhny Novgorod former spouses were found guilty of selling counterfeit products passed off as goods of well-known brands.

      According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a man and a woman who had previously been married decided to make money by selling fake branded clothing, footwear and accessories. To do this they opened boutiques in three shopping centers in the Nizhegorodsky, Avtozavodsky and Sovetsky districts of the city.

      The 49-year-old man registered the business in his name, although he had already twice been administratively fined for similar violations. His ex-wife handled purchases and staff selection. She brought goods bearing counterfeit logos of well-known brands from one of the clothing markets in the Moscow region.

      During an inspection police officers seized more than 220 items of counterfeit goods from the retail outlets. An examination showed that trademarks had been applied to the items that did not match the originals either in quality or in manufacturing techniques.

      A criminal case was opened against the former spouses on charges of illegal use of trademarks. They were placed under a written undertaking not to leave during the investigation.

      The court found both guilty and fined each of them 250,000 rubles. The seized counterfeit goods were destroyed by burning. The court's decision has come into force.

      Earlier it was reported that 425 kg of fish were found in the Nizhny Novgorod Region without the necessary veterinary documents.
