      A previously convicted Nizhny Novgorod resident has been detained on suspicion of murdering his neighbor. This was reported by the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

      The crime was committed in the entranceway of a building on Yefremova Street in the Sormovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod. An unknown person plunged a knife into the neck of a local woman. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance. She died there without regaining consciousness.

      Medics called the police. Detectives from the criminal investigation unit, acting on hot leads, identified and detained a 36-year-old unemployed man who had previously been convicted of robbery. Bloodstains were found on his clothes, and the murder weapon was found under the balcony of his apartment.

      The regional Investigative Committee opened a criminal case. The maximum punishment under part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is imprisonment for a term of 6 to 15 years.

      A pretrial measure will be chosen for the suspect soon.
