      Two cases of rabies have been recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The dangerous disease was confirmed in a fox and a dog following laboratory tests conducted on 9 October at the Regional Veterinary Laboratory, the regional Rosselkhoznadzor reported.

      The infection foci were discovered in the settlement of Petrovsky in Vorotynsky District and in the village of Salgany in Krasnooktyabrsky District.

      Anti-epizootic measures have already begun in these areas. Specialists from the state veterinary service are working according to approved rules to prevent further spread of the virus and eliminate the sources of infection.

      Pet owners are reminded: if your dog or cat bites a person or another animal, you are required to deliver the pet within 12 hours to a veterinary organization subordinate to the regional authorities.

      There the animal will be examined by a veterinarian, after which it will be isolated and observed for 10 days. This is a mandatory measure provided for by veterinary rules to prevent possible spread of rabies.

      Earlier it was reported that a rabies quarantine had been imposed in the village of Teplovo and the village of Zagarino in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
