Torpedo snapped a losing streak by defeating Barys 5–3 on the road.

      On October 12, the Nizhny Novgorod side played the second game of their road trip against Astana’s Barys. Both teams had started the season quite strongly, but coming into this game each had lost four straight in their most recent matches. Barys, coached by Mikhail Kravets, sat seventh in the Eastern Conference with 13 points; Torpedo, coached by Alexey Isakov, had 17 points and was in the top four of the Western Conference.

      The first period began with both teams finding the net. Kirill Panyukov opened the scoring for the hosts, but just half a minute later Maxim Letunov, via a ricochet off the opposing goalie, answered — 1:1. Before the break, Riley Walsh scored from a scramble to put the hosts back ahead — 2:1.

      The second period turned into a real goal fest. The Nizhny Novgorod team seized the lead. Sergey Goncharuk scored on the power play to tie the game, and Alexander Yaremchuk, with his first goal for Torpedo, put the team ahead — 2:3.

      Barys responded and Semyon Simonov brought the game back to a tie — 3:3. But to the hosts’ one goal the Nizhny Novgorod side replied with two. Mikhail Abramov, with a precise shot from the faceoff circle, increased the lead, and Alexey Kruchinin successfully converted on the power play — 3:5.

      In the final period Torpedo showed a confident performance, not allowing Barys to cut the gap. Despite all of Astana’s efforts, the match ended in a victory for the Nizhny Novgorod side — and they reclaimed second place in the West.

      Now the white-and-blues will travel to Minsk, where on October 14 they will play the local Dynamo.
