Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded of measures to prevent thrombosis during air travel.
12 October 2025 16:59 Society — As part of the All‑Russian Day of Combating Thrombosis, observed on 13 October, Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded of the importance of thrombosis prevention, especially during long flights.
Cardiologist Natalya Grigoryeva, director of the Institute of Clinical Medicine at NNSU, emphasized that patients who have had a heart attack often forget the need to continue monitoring their health and return to their usual lifestyle, which is not always the right one. This can lead to recurrent thromboses, the risk of which remains high even after a heart attack.
Natalya Grigoryeva noted that long flights can be a triggering factor for thrombosis, so it is important to take precautions. Although there are medications to prevent thrombosis, their use must be strictly coordinated with a physician.
Russian airports have begun showing videos with simple recommendations from cardiologists that can help reduce the risk of thrombosis during a flight. These include drinking more water and moving around.
People in risk groups, including patients with heart attack, stroke and diabetes, are advised to discuss with their doctor the possibility of taking antithrombotic medications before air travel. This will help minimize the risk of thrombosis and ensure safety while traveling.
By the way, as Alexey Nikonov, editor‑in‑chief of the medical news agency "Stacionar‑press," said, the symbol of the All‑Russian Day of Combating Thrombosis is the migratory bird Bullfinch.
