Strong geomagnetic storms will return to Nizhny Novgorod.

      October 13, 2025, 11:20 Society: Residents of Nizhny Novgorod can expect a difficult geomagnetic situation in October. According to the portal my-calend.ru, two waves of geomagnetic storms will hit the region before the end of the month.

      The first activity will begin on the evening of October 17. After 21:00 a weak storm of strength 3 is expected. By daytime on October 18 the geomagnetic field will become more unstable, rising to level 4. On the following day, October 19, the storm will remain at this level but will strengthen to 5 by the evening.

      The peak of the first wave will fall on October 20. A storm of strength 5 is forecast throughout the day; only by the evening will activity begin to decrease and fall to 3. By October 22 the geomagnetic field will have fully stabilized.

      But this lull will not last long. A new storm will begin on the morning of October 25 — initially at level 4, and by October 29 it will strengthen to 6. This will be the most powerful geostorm of the month. According to preliminary forecasts, it will last until the very end of October.

      As reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at IKI RAS, the cause of all these storms was solar flares. Since October 10 a large prominence has been forming there, ejecting powerful streams of plasma into space. The level of solar flares is currently in the M1.0–M2.0 range. The strongest flare in recent months occurred on September 28. It was this flare that became the source of the powerful geomagnetic waves now covering the Earth.

      Meteo-sensitive residents of Nizhny Novgorod are advised to pay closer attention to their condition. Headaches, blood pressure spikes, irritability, and sleep problems are possible. On such days it is recommended to avoid overexertion and emotional overload to minimize potential negative effects on health.
