Environmental cleanup in Balakhna: nearly 150 cubic meters of waste collected.
October 11, 2025 16:28 Society. In the Balakhna municipal district of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, a large-scale environmental cleanup was held, serving as an example of successful cooperation between government bodies, volunteers and local residents in protecting the environment.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the district administration, the regional headquarters of #WEARETOGETHER, the Volunteers of Victory movement, as well as forest protection officers from the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection.
About 100 people joined the action. They included specialists from the municipal urban amenities company, representatives of the company Sitimatik and active townspeople concerned about the ecological situation in the area.
Work was carried out on Grizodubova and Engels streets, where household and construction waste had been accumulating for many years. Participants cleaned the area of plastic bottles, glass, polyethylene packaging and other types of garbage by hand and with the help of special equipment.
Special attention was paid to the removal of bulky waste: old tires, construction rubble, leftover timber and metal structures. Part of the collected waste was sorted — recyclable materials such as plastic, glass and metal were sent for recycling by Sitimatik.
According to Alexander Gridnev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, regional authorities together with supervisory bodies regularly conduct monitoring using special equipment to identify unauthorized dumps.
“Please do not create spontaneous landfills. This will help avoid administrative fines and keep the area clean. Only by working together can we maintain order in our territory,” he said.
As a result of the cleanup, more than 4,000 square meters of land were cleared, and about 150 cubic meters of waste were collected and prepared for removal.
Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Volunteers of Victory movement, emphasized the importance of such events: “They not only put our streets in order, but also shape ecological thinking. This is a vivid example that together we are a force capable of changing the environment for the better.”
The cleanup was part of the implementation of the national project “Environmental Well-Being,” launched in 2025 at the initiative of the President of Russia. The project includes six federal directions: “General Cleanup,” “Water of Russia,” “Preservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecological Tourism,” “Forest Conservation,” “Circular Economy” and “Clean Air.” Its goal is to create a comfortable and safe environmental living environment.
Earlier it was reported that work had begun in the Lyskovsky district to eliminate an unauthorized dump.
