The investigative authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod have completed the investigation of a criminal case against a 19-year-old resident of the Volodarsky District, accused of illegal circulation of narcotic substances, the regional Interior Ministry reports.
According to investigators, the young man, at the request of an acquaintance, acquired a narcotic — cannabis. He planned to toss a package containing the prohibited substance onto the grounds of a correctional facility.
However, he was unable to carry out his plan. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect before he committed the crime. The drug seized from him was sent for examination, which confirmed its composition.
The suspect has been charged under Part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. As a preventive measure he was placed under a written undertaking not to leave.
The criminal case has been completed and will be sent to court shortly after the indictment is approved.
Under current legislation, illegal acquisition and possession of narcotic drugs is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years.
Earlier it was reported that a Nizhny Novgorod resident was given 12 years for organizing an interregional drug trafficking network.
