Three schoolchildren from Nizhny Novgorod were among the winners of the All-Russian Drone Piloting Championship "Pilots of the Future." The competition was organized by the Movement of the Firsts and the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Public Organization "Federation of Drone (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Races of Russia." As the Ministry of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported, the project is aimed at developing youth potential in the field of unmanned technologies. One hundred of the best pilots from 38 regions of the Russian Federation, who had successfully passed the qualifying stages, took part in the championship final.
The young Nizhny Novgorod competitors were able to achieve high results thanks to effective training. It was conducted at the children's technopark "Kvatorium Bor," in specialized UAV control classes at Secondary School No. 8 in the town of Bor and at the Bor Provincial College, at the Center for New Forms of Education Development, and at the IT-Cube Children's Digital Education Center in Arzamas.
"Creating and developing UAV classes is an investment in the region's future. In our region, 18 classes are already successfully operating, where schoolchildren and students learn how to operate unmanned aerial vehicles — all of them were established thanks to the national project 'Unmanned Aerial Systems.' Each year such competencies become increasingly in demand on the labor market. It's great that our kids are more and more often demonstrating success in mastering the profession of drone pilot. This attests to the good quality of our education, the high qualifications of the mentors, and the effectiveness of early career guidance programs," said Mikhail Puchkov, Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
According to the final results, the best in the "Drone Basketball" discipline was ninth-grade student Nikita Tuzov of Secondary School No. 8 in the town of Bor. The Nizhny Novgorod entrants took two more prize places in the "Drone Racing" discipline: the victory was won by ninth-grade student Andrey Morozov of the Arzamas Lyceum, and third place went to eighth-grade student Daniil Nayanov of Secondary School No. 8 in Bor.
"This tournament is unforgettable for me, and its organization is of a high standard! Thanks to our preparation in specialized UAV classes I was confident of my victory and came aiming for first place in the main discipline — 'Drone Racing.' We won!" said Andrey Morozov.
Recall that creating various opportunities for children to receive quality supplementary education is one component of the national project "Youth and Children."
In turn, under the national project "Unmanned Aerial Systems," the development, standardization and serial production of UAS and their components is being carried out. In addition, a base is being formed for the production of next-generation drones and a system of continuous training of specialists for this field is being created.
In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a specialized scientific and production testing and competence center for the development of the UAS industry has been opened under the national project. A network of such centers will be created in various regions of the country. An experimental legal regime for drone flights has been implemented in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The new national projects have been implemented on the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin since 2025.
