An urban development laboratory is being established in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      A laboratory for urban planning and geospatial analytics is being established at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The agreement was signed by the university’s rector, Dmitry Shchegolev, and the Minister of Urban Development and Agglomeration Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Darya Shunaeva. On the new platform, tools for analyzing spatial data will be developed, transport flows and land use will be optimized, environmental monitoring will be supported, and needs for the development of urban and regional infrastructure will be forecast. “To master new frontiers in the development of anchor settlements, as set by the President and the Government of Russia, we continue to attract intellectual resources. A help in this is the corporate department operating since 2023 at NNGASU, in which Mingrad and Minstroy participate, as well as lecturers who train specialists for the industry. Student laboratories are becoming an effective tool for us that allow us to make more thought-out and balanced decisions on territorial development, and not only for Nizhny Novgorod but for all anchor settlements,” explained Darya Shunaeva.

      The activities of the new laboratory correspond to the goals and objectives of the federal “Professionalitet” program of the national project “Youth and Children”; it will be aimed at the comprehensive development of territories and the training of highly qualified specialists for the region’s construction industry. “This agreement marks a new stage in the development of our university as a center of competence in the field of urban planning. By combining educational and research potential with the practical requests of the ministry, we are creating a powerful tool for forming scientifically grounded urban planning policy and for planning the development of the territories of the Nizhny Novgorod agglomeration, which is currently actively expanding,” noted Dmitry Shchegolev.

      The signing of the agreement was timed to coincide with the university’s 95th anniversary. During the ceremonial event in honor of NNGASU’s jubilee, state and departmental awards were also presented. Letters of appreciation from the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, relevant federal ministries, and university awards were given to leading lecturers, researchers, and university veterans. Special recognition was given to employees who made a significant contribution to the implementation of national projects. “NNGASU plays a key role in providing high-quality training for future civil engineers, architects, and managers of construction enterprises in our region. Over the course of the university’s work, more than one hundred thousand highly qualified specialists have been trained, capable of successfully solving the most ambitious tasks. I wish the university to remain a forge of personnel for our region and the whole country. May the glorious history of the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering continue with new bright names and events,” said the Minister of Construction of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Grunichev.

      Jubilee events at the university will continue until the end of 2025; they include a series of scientific and practical conferences and exhibitions dedicated to the development of the construction industry and architecture. Recall that the new national project “Youth and Children” has been implemented by order of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, since 2025. It includes nine federal projects and programs: “Russia — a Land of Opportunities,” “We Are Together,” “Russia in the World,” “All the Best for Children,” “Leading Schools,” “Teachers and Mentors,” “Creation of a Network of Modern Campuses,” “Universities for a Generation of Leaders,” and “Professionalitet.”
