On October 9, 2025, in Nizhny Novgorod, the 9th interregional scientific and practical conference "Vogralikov Readings. One Patient – a Team Decision" (12+) took place. The event became a platform for discussing the main trends in the development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region's endocrinology service and for exchanging experience among specialists.

This year the conference was timed to coincide with four anniversary dates in regional healthcare: the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko, the 65th anniversary of the hospital's endocrinology department, the 25th anniversary of the regional diabetology center, and the 105th anniversary of the Privolzhsky Research Medical University.

The main organizer of the conference was the head of the endocrinology department of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko, Olga Zanozina. She noted that "the participants follow the principle of unity between theory and practice, and the conference itself gives doctors the opportunity to discuss the latest scientific data in order to timely implement it in their daily work."

This year speakers delivered reports on diabetes, obesity and related cardiovascular pathologies.

"We emphasize disease‑modifying treatment, which not only halts the disease but can also reverse it and prevent the emergence of complications. This has become possible thanks to modern medications. We also spoke with doctors about the capabilities of the domestic pharmaceutical industry in controlling optimal thyroid function indicators. For the first time at the 'Vogralikov Readings' there was a pediatric endocrinology section. It addressed issues of childhood obesity, conditions in which thyroid hormone levels critically drop, pediatric adrenal insufficiency, as well as difficult topics of insulin pump therapy and the possibilities of continuous glucose monitoring," Olga Zanozina explained.

Speaking about the development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region's endocrinology service, speakers noted that both regional endocrinology clusters are now being further equipped with new equipment — one operates on the basis of City Hospital No. 33 of Nizhny Novgorod, the second — at the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko. Eleven interdistrict specialized centers are also being prepared for opening, three of which are pediatric. Work in these areas is being carried out, among other things, within the framework of the new national project "A Long and Active Life."

According to doctors, a program has now been introduced in the region to provide pregnant patients with diabetes with devices for continuous multi‑day glucose monitoring. This is extremely important for preventing severe complications in the unborn baby, since elevated maternal blood sugar directly affects the fetus's pancreas, which begins to produce insulin "for two."

Standards of work have also been updated in more than 50 "Diabetes Schools" in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

During the event special words of gratitude were addressed to veterans and faculty who have devoted their lives to fighting diseases of the human endocrine system. Doctors and mid‑level medical staff were presented with letters of appreciation. Letters of gratitude were also handed to those who still work for the benefit of patients' health. Among them are endocrinologists working within the governor's "Health Trains" project.

"The 'Health Trains' project helps doctors reach the most remote districts and provide timely assistance to patients. An endocrinologist who conducts an initial examination of a patient in a remote area is a kind of beacon indicating the right direction for diagnosis and treatment, and sometimes that 'beacon' saves lives. Therefore today we also congratulated the head of the 'Health Trains,' ophthalmologist and endocrinologist Olga Kolchik, as well as field team endocrinologists Elvira Golovataya and Elena Rozhkova," Olga Zanozina emphasized.

The conference ended with the filling of the "Vessel of Time" — a symbol of the unity of the endocrinology community, continuity of ideas, and the connection between past, present and future. A "time portal" was installed in the endocrinology department of the N.A. Semashko Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital. Each practicing physician attending the conference was able to leave a message for successors who will open the capsule in 20 years and see how far medicine has advanced.

Recall that the national project "A Long and Active Life" is a continuation of the national project "Healthcare" and is being implemented by order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The new national project covers all areas of work in the sector — from modernization of primary care to rehabilitation.
