The emotional match between Nizhny Novgorod's Torpedo and Magnitogorsk's Metallurg, held on October 7, was marked by numerous altercations between players. And after the game in the mixed zone, the teams' head coaches, Alexey Isakov and Andrey Razin, began to settle matters.
Metallurg head coach Andrey Razin was extremely outraged by the Nizhny Novgorod players' play, and said so in a post-match interview: "You have to know how to lose. And when you start doing this kind of crap, it's no longer hockey."
Shortly after the flash interview, a moment made it into the broadcast in which the coaches were speaking in raised voices and were a step away from a fight. Staff intervened to separate them.
Razin was particularly displeased with the play of Nizhny Novgorod defenseman and the KHL leader in physical plays, Sergey Boikov. It was he and Ural forward Mikhail Fedorov who were each sent to the penalty box twice for fighting. An unpleasant episode occurred at the end of the third period involving Maksim Letunov, who struck an opponent with his stick.
"I call on the league to pay attention to player Boikov, who today several times, bluntly speaking, tried to kill — to inflict an injury. And just because he didn't do it this time doesn't mean it will be okay next time. This man is anti-hockey. People like him simply go out on the ice to injure other players," Razin said at the press conference.
Commenting on the conflict with Isakov, Razin noted that the situation in the area under the stands after the match was purely conversational in nature without any physical contact, although it was in raised voices. "If I had hit him, he wouldn't have gotten up. Tell Isakov that," Razin said as he left the press conference.
Alexey Isakov was more restrained in his comments, noting that everything is fine because people have emotions.
On October 10 the teams will meet again, this time in Magnitogorsk. Torpedo faces a three-game road trip.
It was previously reported that the readiness of the Ice Palace at Strelka had reached 96%.
