October 7, 2025 19:15 Society — Nizhny Novgorod enterprises will pay 45 million rubles for environmental damage, the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod mayor’s office reported.
In August–September 2025, JSC "Nizhny Novgorod Vodokanal", implementing the action plan to combat sources of odors approved by an interdepartmental working group, continued intensified work with large customers who daily discharge more than 30 cubic meters of effluent into Nizhny Novgorod’s sewer system. These organizations are under special supervision, and monitoring for the discharge of prohibited substances is continuous.
Based on wastewater sampling, air measurements and visual inspections, more than 20 violations of established standards were identified in August–September. In total, 67 cases of non-compliance were recorded from July to September.
Following the August results, offending customers were assessed fees for negative environmental impact totaling 44.5 million rubles. Assessments for September will be completed by October 15. All funds received will subsequently be directed to improving the reliability of the sewer system.
It was reported that legal entities owed JSC "Nizhny Novgorod Vodokanal" nearly 2.5 million rubles.
We also reported that Nizhny Novgorod enterprises were hit with multimillion fines for discharges.
