Eighty-two garages will be demolished for the reconstruction of the Rzhavka tunnels in Nizhny Novgorod.

      In the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, plans are underway to seize 82 land plots on which the garages of GSK "Volna" are located on Pravdinskaya Street. These measures are related to the upcoming reconstruction of the Rzhavka River tunnels. The corresponding territory planning project between Shlisselburgskaya Street and Zarechny Boulevard was approved by the Ministry of Urban Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      The Rzhavka tunnel system is part of the drainage and stormwater infrastructure that provides for the diversion of surface water from the Kanavinsky, Avtozavodsky and Leninsky districts into the Oka River. According to the project developers, this system plays a key role in protecting the lower part of the city from flooding.

      The reconstruction is necessary due to a decline in the efficiency of the existing hydraulic structure. In particular, ground subsidence is being recorded on Zarechny Boulevard, indicating an unsatisfactory condition of the collectors.

      In addition, the open channel of the Rzhavka has been subjected to significant anthropogenic impact. In some sections it has been filled with construction debris, and artificial dams have formed, making it impossible to preserve it in its current form.

      Workers will also create special terraces to increase bank stability. All these measures are aimed at improving water conveyance capacity, strengthening the shoreline and minimizing the risk of flooding, while maximally preserving the historic riverbed of the Rzhavka.

      Earlier it was reported that the authorities would seize several more garages in Sormovo for the construction of the metro.
