The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia annulled the acquired citizenship of 2,875 people. This was reported by the ministry's official representative Irina Volk, according to 360.ru.
It is noted that these figures have been recorded since Federal Law No. 138-FZ "On the Citizenship of the Russian Federation" of April 28, 2023 came into force.
The main reasons for loss of citizenship are the entry into force of convictions in criminal cases and migrants' failure to comply with the obligation to register with the military after obtaining Russian citizenship.
Volk emphasized that the introduction of the procedure for revoking citizenship is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of combating foreigners whose actions pose a threat to state and public security.
For reference, a refugee from Abkhazia was stripped of Russian citizenship for extremism in Nizhny Novgorod.
