An expert commented on the unexpected death of a head chef in Nizhny Novgorod.
October 8, 2025, 3:20 PM. Society. In Nizhny Novgorod, a well-known chef, Oleg Kolisnichenko, who headed the kitchens of two popular city restaurants, suddenly passed away. He was only 37 years old.
The tragedy occurred at his workplace. The man suffered a stroke caused by a clot in the carotid artery. Doctors performed emergency intervention to stop the progression of the stroke, but brain swelling soon developed. A repeat operation — shunting — was later performed, but the chef could not be saved. He died on the fourth day after the onset.
A representative of the regional health authority, Alexey Nikonov, commented on the situation, stressing that even young and active people can be at risk. "There is nothing to do but shrug in sorrow: young, according to relatives, he took care of his health, led an active lifestyle, exercised, had tests done — all the results were normal," the specialist said.
He reminded that the carotid artery is one of the main vessels supplying the brain. Its blockage can lead to the most severe consequences, including stroke and death. Particularly dangerous is the fact that carotid artery pathologies often develop without obvious symptoms. They can easily be mistaken for an ordinary headache, dizziness, ringing in the ears, or numbness in the limbs.
Nikonov also added that risk factors include a hereditary tendency to elevated blood lipid levels and arterial hypertension.
Earlier, Oleg Kolisnichenko’s widow posted a touching farewell to her husband on social media. The chef’s colleagues sent words of condolence to his family and loved ones.
