On October 5, 2025, the All‑Russian kudo competition "Cup of National Unity" took place at the Yunost Sports Palace, timed to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Assistance in organizing the tournament was provided by the chairman of the standing commission of the City Duma on patriotic education, youth policy, physical culture and sport, Vladimir Poddymnikov‑Gordeev. The All‑Russian competition has become traditional for the Nizhny Novgorod region and was held for the third time. In 2025 it brought together 450 of the strongest athletes from 19 regions of Russia. The Nizhny Novgorod region team was represented by 50 athletes; for many of them, a tournament of this level was their first.
"The Cup of National Unity has become a symbol of respect for history and traditions, a place where sport unites generations, nationalities and cities. The tournament continues the proud traditions of kudo development in Russia and helps popularize this sport among youth," Vladimir Poddymnikov‑Gordeev emphasized in his welcome address. The deputy stressed that working with the younger generation has become one of the priorities of the City Duma’s activities, in which a thematic specialized commission has been formed.
The athletes were also greeted by Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Vasily Sukhanov, Director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sport of the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration Anton Ermakov, Chairman of the Public Council under the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region Vadim Grebenshchikov, Senior Assistant to the Head of the MSUT of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zakharov, and Vice‑President of the KUDO Federation of Russia Iskandar Gabdrakhmanov.
