Member of the Public Chamber Vladislav Grib proposed labeling chips and carbonated drinks as harmful products, similarly to how cigarettes and alcohol are labeled.
In particular, he said that products containing large amounts of sugar and trans fats should carry a warning about possible negative health effects. This can be done both with colored price tags in stores and by requiring manufacturers to indicate on packaging information about the harm of their products.
According to Darya Rusakova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and a dietitian, such a measure can be effective. In a conversation with the TV channel "360" she noted that red labels on product packaging can make people think about whether they need to consume them. Although these measures will mainly affect conscious consumers, they are already used in many countries around the world and, Rusakova hopes, can be successfully implemented in Russia.
The doctor also noted that modern society is experiencing a trend of a declining number of healthy people, including children. In this regard she proposed additional measures, such as raising prices on chips and soda, changing their packaging design to make them less attractive, and removing these products from supermarket checkout areas.
