Nizhny Novgorod Region shared its experience of preparing for an anniversary with Kaliningrad.

      The Nizhny Novgorod delegation presented colleagues from Kaliningrad Oblast with a systematic approach to organizing large anniversary events. The experience of celebrating Nizhny Novgorod’s 800th anniversary could help Kaliningrad Oblast prepare for its own anniversary — the region will mark 80 years in 2026.

      "The 800th-anniversary project in Nizhny Novgorod became an example of systematic work. In the context of the pandemic, large-scale construction and restorations, all government bodies acted as a single mechanism: coordination was built, communication was established, and a common interest in the outcome was ensured. This produced a powerful effect that endures to this day: a several-fold increase in tourist traffic, the development of the hospitality sector, growth in the volume of paid services and a significant contribution of the creative industries to the region's economy," said Oleg Berkovich.

      During the strategic session, the Nizhny Novgorod delegation not only shared its experience but also took part in discussions of future events planned for the 80th anniversary of Kaliningrad Oblast.

      Kaliningrad Oblast Governor Alexey Besprozvannykh thanked the guests for their visit and noted that his colleagues' advice would help set priorities correctly and use resources wisely. He emphasized that Nizhny Novgorod's experience would serve as a useful guide for the region to make the anniversary bright and memorable.

      The Minister of Tourism and Crafts of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Sergey Yakovlev, added that the success of such a celebration depends on a comprehensive approach. In his words, it is important not only to put together an interesting program but also to consider developing tourism, preserving cultural heritage, attracting investment and establishing communication. All of this together, he believes, helps create a true festive atmosphere and strengthen local residents' sense of pride.
