The court ordered a Nizhny Novgorod resident to pay more than 1.9 million rubles for damage to the soil.

October 3, 2025, 18:00 Society — The Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod satisfied the claim of the Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia. By the court’s decision, a local resident was ordered to pay for damage to the soil caused by illegal dumping of waste.

The violation was discovered in 2022 in the Kstovsky District. Behind houses No. 81–85 in the village of Krutaya, under a power line, inspectors found large piles of construction debris and soil. Experts from the FSBI "TsLATI for the Volga Federal District" carried out geodetic work and sampling, determining that the contaminated area exceeded 537 square meters. Based on the obtained data, the amount of damage caused to the environment was calculated.

It turned out that the contaminated plot belongs to unallocated state property, and its maintenance is formally assigned to local self-government bodies. Therefore, the claim for compensation was initially sent to the administration of the Kstovsky municipal district.

However, during further court proceedings with the involvement of law enforcement agencies, it was possible to identify the specific culprit. It was a resident of the settlement of Zhdanovsky who was involved in organizing the unauthorized dump.

After that, Rosprirodnadzor filed a new lawsuit, this time against an individual. The court fully upheld the supervisory authority’s claims. Now more than 1.9 million rubles will be recovered from the violator and transferred to the budget of the Kstovsky District, where the environmental damage occurred.

Earlier it was reported that more than 870,000 rubles were being recovered from the administration of the Buturlinsky District over a dump.
