The Evenius House in Nizhny Novgorod has reopened after restoration.

      The house-museum of pharmacist Nikolai Evenius, located in Nizhny Novgorod at 45 Studyonaya St., opened after restoration, reports a correspondent for the IA "Vremya N".

      Nikolai Evenius is the grandson of the first Nizhny Novgorod apothecary and a representative of a dynasty of pharmacists. Their house, built in the second half of the 19th century, is typical of residential development in Nizhny Novgorod of that era. In Soviet times the building was divided into apartments and underwent minor reconfigurations.

      In 2017 the building was recognized as a cultural heritage site and was renovated in 2024–2025.

      The restorers faced an ambitious task to return the house to its original appearance. Special attention was paid to restoring the decorative elements of the façade: carvings, wrought-iron grilles and windows. The work was carried out using original materials or their equivalents.

      After the renovation, a café opened on the ground floor of the Evenius House with a product developed for the project — "medicinal lozenges" — and on the second floor the study, apothecary storeroom and the apothecary's parlor were restored.

      "Before the restoration the house was in a state of complete ruin, utilities had been disconnected. Therefore the project team had to carry out a very large amount of work. The restoration concept is similar to comparable projects in Kolomna: historical facts about the house and its owners are taken as a basis, and a new product is developed," said Yegor Polyakov, Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      "The project is being implemented by our subordinate state enterprise 'Regnedvizhimost' and private investor Yana Terekhova. The authors of the concept are Olga Naumova, Nikita Gamzyul and Anna Davydova with the participation of the 'Tom Sawyer Fest Nizhny Novgorod' team. The investor is responsible for organizing the café and producing the unique 'medicinal lozenges'. The volume of investment in the project amounted to 23 million rubles," said Sergei Barinov, Minister of Property and Land Relations of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
