A Dzerzhinsk resident was convicted of attempted murder motivated by jealousy.

      A man who attempted to kill an acquaintance during a jealousy-fueled dispute has been sentenced in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The Investigative Committee for the city of Dzerzhinsk completed the investigation into the criminal case opened on the charge of attempted murder. The evidence gathered was deemed by the court sufficient to deliver a guilty verdict.

      The incident occurred in March 2025 in an apartment belonging to the defendant’s ex-wife. During an argument with her acquaintance, the man attacked his opponent with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and torso.

      The victim was rushed to hospital, where doctors provided necessary care. Thanks to prompt medical intervention, the man survived.

      The court found the attacker guilty of attempted murder (Part 3 of Art. 30, Part 1 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to 6.5 years in prison. He will serve the sentence in a strict‑regime correctional colony.

      Earlier it was reported that a court in the Nizhny Novgorod region had found a 63‑year‑old man guilty of the murder of a minor committed in 1996.
