Ekaterina Lebedeva: "Lessons of the past remind us how important the unity of the home front and the front lines is"

      On 3 October, an International Scientific and Practical Conference "National Unity Day and the People's Militia of 1612: new meanings, values, historical images" (16+) was held on the premises of the Presidential Academy NRU.

      The director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management, Ekaterina Lebedeva, noted the particular significance of the event ahead of the anniversary celebration. She emphasized that this year National Unity Day will be celebrated for the twentieth time, and this milestone allows for a renewed reassessment of the values and historical images associated with the event.

      According to her, representatives of the clergy, historians, politicians, public and cultural figures from various regions of Russia, as well as from Belarus, Azerbaijan, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, took part in the discussions. Participants addressed questions of Russia's historical mission, images of heroism in different eras, and a new paradigm of unity that is becoming particularly relevant in the current circumstances.

      Lebedeva stressed that attempts by Western countries to exert political and cultural pressure on Russia provoke social cohesion, as happened at the beginning of the 17th century.

      "I am confident that the lessons of the past and its turning points resonate in the heart of everyone, reminding us how important unity between the home front and the front lines is, as well as social and interethnic harmony," said Ekaterina Lebedeva.

      As the institute director noted, the discussion of tools for preserving historical memory, as well as issues of cultural and information policy, allowed conference participants to look at the significance of National Unity Day in a new way.
