Rostelecom and the children's technopark Kvantorium organized the first team tournament in Nizhny Novgorod for the board game "BezOpasny Internet" (6+). The event took place on September 30, on Russian Internet Day. More than one hundred schoolchildren aged 10 to 13 participated.
According to the scenario, the children, together with the game's main character Antivirus, had to save the internet from malicious programs. Participants took turns rolling a die, answering cybersecurity questions and moving pieces. Each correct answer earned the team points.
Evgeny Petrov, vice-president, director of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of PJSC Rostelecom: "Each of us risks becoming a victim of fraudsters, losing personal data or accidentally landing on a dangerous website. Children are most at risk. That is why a special team board game was created to help children learn the rules of conduct online. During the tournament the idea arose to create the Nizhny Novgorod School League of Safe Internet, whose participants will be able to gain cyber literacy skills together."
Svetlana Nepokorova, director of the Center for Youth, Engineering and Scientific Competences "Kvantorium": "In a game format, it is easier for children to understand the dangerous situations that await them online. The technopark's educators added practical tasks to the theoretical questions so that schoolchildren would better absorb the important rules of online behavior and learn to apply them in real life."
Maxim Shibanov, a fifth-grader and participant in the tournament: "Our team got a question about online harassment. Now I know what bullying is and how to respond to aggression. It's better to ignore negative messages on social networks and in online games, and if the situation gets out of control, immediately report the problem to adults."
As a result of the game, the six best teams were awarded diplomas and gifts from Rostelecom.
The board game "BezOpasny Internet" was developed by the editorial office of the magazine Raduga with the assistance of Rostelecom to improve children's cyber literacy.
