Nizhny Novgorod residents were told when to switch to winter tires.

      With the onset of cold weather, Nizhny Novgorod motorists are once again faced with an important question — when is it necessary to change summer tires for winter ones. The company "Avtodor" reminded drivers of the current rules.

      According to Decree No. 837 of May 27, 2023, the use of summer tires is prohibited throughout Russia from December 1. However, in most regions winter arrives much earlier, so drivers should primarily rely on weather conditions.

      If the temperature stays below +5°C for at least five consecutive days — it's time to visit a tire service.

      Not only summer tires but also worn tires with a completely or partially worn tread pose a particular danger in cold weather. Such a surface significantly reduces road grip and increases the risk of accidents.

      In addition, new winter tires require a break-in period, which is best done in advance — on dry asphalt and before persistent frosts set in. That way, road grip will be more reliable.

      Avtodor also reminded drivers not to postpone vehicle inspections, to monitor fuel levels, and to remember the traffic rules to ensure safety on winter roads.

      Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod has begun preparing equipment for winter road cleaning.
