A horrifying crash in Sarov that left one person dead has turned into a criminal case.

      A criminal case has been opened over a fatal road traffic accident in Sarov that occurred on the morning of September 26, the regional Interior Ministry press service reported.

      It was established that a 63-year-old driver of a Lada was traveling on the main road and, at an uncontrolled intersection while turning left, failed to yield the right of way to a Chevrolet. The Chevrolet was driven by a 50-year-old man who was traveling straight on the main road in the opposite direction. As a result of the collision, the Chevrolet left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

      A 66-year-old passenger of the Lada who was in the car was killed in the crash. Both drivers sustained injuries of varying severity and were hospitalized.

      The Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the closed administrative-territorial formation (ZATO) of the city of Sarov has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — violation of traffic rules resulting in the death of a person. The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to five years.

      Earlier it was reported that nine people died on the region’s roads last week.
