Officers from the regional office of the Russian FSB conducted searches at the home of former first deputy mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Ilya Shtokman. During the investigative actions two metal safes were opened, inside of which large sums of cash were found.
In footage released by the agency it can be seen how, after Shtokman's detention and the search of his house, operatives open the safes using a circular saw.
Inside were stacks of 5,000-ruble notes and foreign currency. In addition, casino chips were found among the contents.
A criminal case has been opened against Ilya Shtokman. He has been charged with receiving a bribe on a particularly large scale.
Recall that Shtokman became the city's first deputy mayor in 2020. In September 2022 he voluntarily went to take part in the special military operation. In July 2023 he even met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Shtokman unexpectedly left his post in August 2025.
News of the former official's detention in Sochi became known on September 26. According to the investigation, while serving as first deputy head of the city administration, Shtokman received 55 million rubles for assisting a construction company in securing municipal contracts without competitive bidding, as well as for protection and oversight of their execution. The court ordered pretrial detention for two months.
It was previously reported that the accused had turned an apartment building in central Nizhny Novgorod into a three-level cottage.
