The Nizhny Novgorod Region has become one of the three regions of the Volga Federal District with the largest tourist flow, the NTA-Privolzhye news agency reports.

As Oleg Mashkovtsev, deputy plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, said at the "KUPNO.START" forum, the leaders in terms of number of tourists, in addition to the Nizhny Novgorod Region, were Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.

The total tourist flow across all regions of the district has reached 20 million people in recent years. Mashkovtsev pointed out that it is precisely in these regions that tourist infrastructure is most developed and digital technologies are being actively implemented, including virtual tours, 3D reconstructions, digital guides and smart hotels.

He also added that event tourism attracts from 2 to 3 million tourists annually to the leading regions. In the Nizhny Novgorod Region the emphasis is on cultural and educational tourism.

"Moreover, the event tourism of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, perhaps, differs from all other regions in its intensity. It seems to me that no other region can yet promote itself so actively in the field of event tourism," Oleg Mashkovtsev said.

Earlier it was reported that an investor will be provided with support of 7.8 million rubles for the construction of modular tourist hotels in the Borsky district.
