Residents of Nizhny Novgorod were explained the reasons why electronic cigarettes are not subject to standard recycling. This was stated in a message published on the social networks of JSC "Sitimatic — Nizhny Novgorod."
As the regional operator notes, improper disposal of vapes can cause serious harm to the environment. First and foremost, this concerns the risks of soil and water contamination.
Specialists emphasize that recycling electronic cigarettes is a technologically complex process. The main problem lies in the devices' construction: they are made of various types of plastic, which makes it impossible to sort and reuse them under general rules.
Built-in rechargeable batteries pose a particular danger. They require special conditions for storage, transportation and neutralization, which "Sitimatic" does not possess. The regional operator lacks the license and the necessary infrastructure to recycle such waste independently.
Nizhny Novgorod residents are advised to hand in used batteries at specialized collection points or give them to official automotive and electronics dealers who have permission to accept and subsequently dispose of them.
"Sitimatic" also reminded that violations of the rules for storing and disposing of batteries can entail not only administrative liability but also criminal punishment.
Recall that Nizhny Novgorod entrepreneurs supported the idea of a complete ban on vapes. Earlier, this initiative was proposed by the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin.
