A club to preserve historical memory has opened in Nizhny Novgorod.

      The first meeting was held at the Avangard Center venue.

      The ceremonial opening of the Club for the Preservation of Historical Memory took place in Nizhny Novgorod on September 25. The event was attended by a correspondent from the Vremya N news agency.       The initiator of the club’s creation, Sergey Baev, in his speech told participants about the “Regional Heritage” project, within which the names of Nizhny Novgorod residents from the period of the Great Patriotic War are posted on an information portal. Special attention is given to the locations of their burials.

      “It is important to educate the younger generation of Nizhny Novgorod residents by the example of their ancestors, who made a significant contribution to the Soviet people’s victory over fascism,” he noted.

      Then the club participants spoke about their historical and local-history research in the territory of Nizhny Novgorod and the region. Among such works are the study of the Gorky 137th Division, which was the first of all tank divisions to go to the front, the history of the artillery installation located in Avtozavodsky Park, and others.

      “The opening of the Club for the Preservation of Historical Memory is symbolic for the entire system of patriotic education. It is important that the unified community of historians, local-history researchers, and public activists of the region will be able to work together to perpetuate the memory of our ancestors, and the results of this work can become an important step in the patriotic upbringing of the younger generation,” said Acting Director of the Unified Center “Avangard,” Alexander Ineshin.
